Senior Analyst Operations, NZ Forest Service

Role type: Fixed Term / Dec 2026, full-time hours

Location: Wellington

General Salary Band D: $100,934 to $118,005 per annum, depending on skills and experience

 

We are recruiting for a Senior Analyst Operations to join our Forestry Operations directorate as part of our wider Te Uru Rākau – New Zealand Forest Service business unit, based in Wellington.

 

About the Role - Kōrero mō te tūranga

This role reports to the Team Leader, Forestry Emission Trading Scheme (ETS) Operations in Te Uru Rākau - New Zealand Forest Service at the Ministry for Primary Industries.

The core responsibilities for the role are:

  • Being a technical specialist in the ETS for forestry: undertaking analysis and providing advice
  • Liaising directly with forestry consultants, forest owners and inventory providers
  • Case managing a variety of applications to support forestry in the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS)
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to junior operations analysts and other teams where appropriate
  • Drafting memorandums, briefings, and other documents
  • Assisting with the development of Ministerial correspondence and Official Information Act requests
  • Providing technical advice for the improvement and creation of operational policy, process, and procedure as well as forms and templates

 

About You - Mōu

To be successful in this role you will ideally have:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • An enquiring mind and a strong voice to challenge things
  • Ability to learn and apply legislation in an operational context
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of people and work in a collaborative manner to succeed
  • An understanding of the public sector and the machinery of government, including interaction with decision makers and stakeholders would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of the forestry aspects of the ETS and carbon accounting is advantageous
