Compliance Officer (ETS)

Salary band & range: General Salary Range F - $76,463 to $89,215 depending on skills and experience
About the Role - Kōrero mō te Tūranga
As a Compliance Officer (ETS), you will play a crucial role in ensuring that forestry participants comply with their Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) requirements.
Key duties include:
- Manage caseloads in accordance with the Climate Change Response Act 2002 (CCRA), including reviewing complex information and preparing formal compliance notices to uphold integrity of the Emissions Trading Scheme.
- Communicate complex legislative and compliance matters in a clear and accessible way to a range of stakeholders.
- Apply strategic frameworks and planning tools to manage cyclical compliance deadlines and ensure timely, well-informed decision-making across workstreams.
About You - Mōu
We're seeking a dedicated and driven professional with a tertiary qualification in a relevant field such as forestry science or climate science. You'll bring experience working in a regulatory or compliance environment, with the ability to confidently interpret and apply legislation. Strong analytical skills, intellectual curiosity, and a proactive approach to investigating and understanding complex information are essential to ensure alignment with compliance requirements.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders are key to success in this role. We value individuals who are responsive to changing priorities, demonstrate sound judgement, and contribute to continuous improvement through thoughtful decision-making and strategic thinking.

Join a diverse and collaborative team within Te Uru Rākau – New Zealand Forest Service.
Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to support compliance with Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) requirements under the Climate Change Response Act 2002. The team values open communication, proactive problem-solving, and a strong sense of purpose in delivering regulatory outcomes.
