Location: Wellington City

Salary band & range: General Salary Range F, $76,463 to $101,967 depending on skills and experience

About the Role - Kōrero mō te Tūranga

Our Talent Advisory team, part of the People & Capability directorate, is looking for a proactive and solutions focused Adviser to join us. This is a varied and rewarding role where you'll manage your own recruitment portfolio and work closely with leaders to support confident, well‑informed hiring decisions in an increasingly complex and ambiguous environment.

As an Adviser, you'll play a critical role in helping leaders think differently about talent, navigate uncertainty, and build capability for the future – not just fill vacancies.

As an Adviser, you will:

  • Take ownership of a recruitment portfolio, building a strong understanding of your business areas and where you can add the most value
  • Partner with leaders to understand current and future talent needs, challenging where appropriate and offering practical, solutions‑focused recruitment advice
  • Confidently guide hiring managers through the full recruitment lifecycle, even when requirements are evolving or unclear
  • Use talent insights and market knowledge to inform decisions around attraction strategies
  • Ensure we attract, select, and appoint high‑quality candidates while delivering a positive experience for both hiring managers and candidates

You'll also have opportunities to contribute to projects, present insights or recommendations to leadership teams, and facilitate discussions focused on continuously improving how we deliver talent services to our stakeholders.

About You - Mōu

This opportunity suits an experienced Recruitment Coordinator or early in‑career Adviser with 1–3 years' experience who is looking to grow into a broader recruitment advisory role. You will be confident juggling multiple priorities, and know how to advise, educate, and influence stakeholders - all while keeping the candidate and hiring manager experience front of mind.

You bring a genuine interest in recruitment and talent, with experience across the full recruitment lifecycle in an agency and/or internal environment. You are comfortable working with evolving information, using sound judgement and initiative to help progress work in a fast‑paced setting.

You are organised, proactive, and able to manage competing priorities with confidence and good judgement.

You will also bring:

  • Practical experience using an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) to support end‑to‑end recruitment activities and maintain accurate candidate records
  • A solutions‑focused mindset and a willingness to take ownership of your portfolio
  • Curiosity and drive to understand your stakeholders, business context, and where you can add value
  • Strong relationship‑building skills, with the ability to provide clear advice and guidance
  • Clear, confident communication skills, including comfort engaging with a range of audiences

About the Team - Mō tō mātou Rōpū

You'll report to the Principal Adviser Talent Advisory and work alongside a supportive team of Advisers and Senior Advisers who bring a range of recruitment skills and experience.

We're a close-knit team that values collaboration, learning, and having fun. We share ideas, support each other, and take pride in delivering great outcomes for our people and candidates.
