This position is an opportunity to contribute to meaningful animal welfare outcomes while working on complex issues within a dynamic regulatory environment.

The role will be providing technical advice and support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of processes and requirements that underpin New Zealand's live animal exports systems. In this role you will need to work collaboratively across Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) and engage effectively with exporters and associated organisations.  Animal export issues can be complex; you will need to exercise good judgement and have practical problem-solving skills when working within this regulatory environment.

You bring a solutions-focused mindset, adaptability and the ability to navigate a dynamic and evolving regulatory environment.

To be successful in this role, you will have the following skills and attributes:

  • Suitable qualification in a relevant field, including veterinary science
  • Experience in an animal or animal welfare related field
  • Broad knowledge of the New Zealand regulatory environment, Animal Products Act and Animal Welfare Act 1999
  • Experience in managing relationships and consultation with an assortment of internal and external stakeholders
  • Well-developed research and analytical skills
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Self-motivated with good organisational skills, able to set priorities and meet deadlines

You do not need to meet all of the role requirements to apply. We offer a breadth of development and learning opportunities and will welcome an application if you think you could make a great fit.
