Salary band & range: GSR D $102,953 to $132,401 depending on skills and experience

 

About the Role - Kōrero mō te Tūranga

This role offers the opportunity to reimagine and modernise MPI's fleet management function, with a strong focus on data-driven decision making, emerging technologies, and continuous improvement. You'll work closely with leaders across the organisation to ensure our fleet is fit-for-purpose, cost-effective, sustainable, and positioned to meet future business needs. Success in this role requires strategic thinking, commercial acumen, and curiosity about how AI and automation can improve business outcomes.

 

Key responsibilities are to:

• Lead fleet optimisation and utilisation improvement programmes
• Manage commercial contracts and supplier performance
• Interpret complex fleet and GPS data to drive decisions
• Deliver executive and governance reporting
• Support fleet sustainability and carbon reduction initiatives
• Lead implementation of fleet systems and technology solutions
• Build strong relationships with managers, directors, and suppliers
• Champion innovation, automation, and AI-enabled improvements

 

About You - Mōu

You're an experienced fleet management professional who combines strategic thinking, commercial acumen, and strong stakeholder engagement skills. You enjoy using data and insights to influence decision-making, improve operational performance, and deliver practical business outcomes. You'll be comfortable working with senior leaders, suppliers, and operational teams while navigating governance requirements and driving continuous improvement.

 

You'll likely be working, or have worked, in a fleet management, transport, asset management, procurement, or operational leadership environment. Present reports and data in an easily readable way and showcase your experience within the public sector or a large, complex organisation.

 

You'll bring:

• Experience managing fleet operations across the vehicle lifecycle
• Strong fleet analytics, reporting, and data interpretation skills
• Knowledge of governance, assurance, and risk management practices
• Experience managing contracts and supplier relationships
• Ability to influence stakeholders and present clear recommendations
• Curiosity to explore AI and automation opportunities in the workplace
• Experience leading projects, business change, or system implementations

 

This role includes occasional domestic travel to support fleet initiatives and the rollout of fleet management tools across MPI sites, including possible overnight stays.
