Social Worker - Te Awhina at Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Whanganui, Manawatu / Whanganui

  • Te Awhina Acute Mental Health Unit Wanganui Hospital,
  • Permanent Fulltime 40hrs per week

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced, enthusiastic Social Worker to join the dynamic and progressive Acute Mental Health Inpatient team – Te Awhina.

We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about recovery orientated practice, positive outcomes and appreciates working as part of a collaborative multi-disciplinary team.  

About the Role

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a high level of knowledge and skill in assessment and implementation of recovery care plans, forming of partnerships with tangata whaiora and community partners to  achieve meaningful goals within the inpatient setting.

Some key aspects of hospital social work include:

- Patient Advocacy: Supporting patients in navigating the healthcare system and advocating for their needs

- Emotional Support: Providing emotional support to patients and their families through difficult times

- Discharge Planning: Helping plan safe discharges and connecting patients with community resources

- Collaboration: Working with healthcare teams to ensure holistic care

About the Team/Service/ Location

Te Awhina is a 12 bed inpatient unit and plays a valuable role in recovery for those presenting with acute mental health concerns.

About you

As an inpatient social worker, we are looking for someone who:

  • Aligns to our hospital values and vision.
  • Advocates for equity, human rights, and promotes a high level of clinical and ethical practice.
  • Is motivated to pursue Social Work best practice whist maintaining a high level of knowledge and skill.
  • Is solution focused and strengths based.
  • Is able to form strong meaningful and productive links with local and national community agencies and organisations.
  • Has a minimum of 2 years social work experience and is able to provide assessment, advice, advocacy, intervention, education, counselling, safety and goal planning and able to  provide Social Work input into multi-disciplinary care plans.

Ideally you will hold the following experience and professional requirements needed in the role -

  • Minimum 2 years of social work practice
  • Full drivers license
  • Registered with Social Work Registration Board and holds a current annual practicing certificate
  • Be fit and healthy
  • Be able to pass Vulnerable childrens checks
