Permanent, 40 hours per week

About the role

Child & Youth Services delivers an integrated, evidence‑based model of care for tamariki and rangatahi from birth through to 18 years of age. This clinical psychology position works primarily across the MICAMHAS and Child Development Services, within a well‑established multidisciplinary environment.

MICAMHAS provides specialist mental health and addiction assessment, therapy, and intervention for infants, children, and adolescents (0–18 years) presenting with moderate to severe difficulties. The Child Development Service is a multidisciplinary team supporting the developmental and neurodevelopmental needs of children up to 15 years of age.

As a member of the clinical psychology team, you will provide high‑quality psychological assessment and intervention to young people and their whānau. The role includes undertaking neuropsychological and developmental assessments, delivering selected therapeutic interventions aligned with your scope of practice, and contributing to service development and quality improvement initiatives. There are opportunities to work collaboratively with psychiatry, paediatric medical & nursing, allied health, and cultural support services to inform care planning.

You will receive strong professional support, including structured orientation, clinical supervision, and opportunities for ongoing professional development. This role offers a supportive and reflective practice environment, valuing continuous learning, cultural responsiveness, and psychological leadership within child and youth services.

This role includes active participation in quality improvement projects and will require building and maintaining strong relationships with other health and social sector providers.

About you

  • a Current registration (Clinical scope) with a New Zealand Registration Authority and a current practicing certificate
  • Preference for at least 2 years post-graduation work experience
  • police screening that allows the ability to work with vulnerable children
  • experience working in the Child & Youth fields is desirable

Working at Te Whatu Ora Whanganui

You will be supported to develop your skills by the Clinical Management team and will be provided with opportunities for professional learning and supervision.

Child Health Services work in a multidisciplinary model, and you will be supported by allied health, medical, and nursing teams from throughout the wider Child and Youth Service.
