Allied Health Assistant - Short-term Loan Equipment Service at Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Whanganui, Manawatu / Whanganui

Allied Health Assistant – Short-term Loan Equipment service, Whanganui Hospital, Whanganui.

Permanent Full Time (1.0 FTE) Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm

Are you practical, organised, and passionate about helping people maintain their independence? Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Whanganui is seeking two enthusiastic Allied Health Assistants to join our Short-term Loan Equipment service team.

This is a rewarding role supporting the provision, management, and distribution of equipment that helps people safely remain in their homes and communities. You will work closely with Allied Health clinicians, patients, whānau, and community providers to ensure equipment is available, maintained, and issued in a timely manner.

About the Role

As an Allied Health Assistant within the Short-term loan equipment service, you will:

  • Manage daily equipment requests, allocations, deliveries, returns and storage of equipment.
  • Liaise with patient/whanau.
  • Assist with equipment delivery and collection processes.
  • Prepare, clean, inspect, and maintain loan equipment.
  • Support Allied Health clinicians with equipment management and patient-related tasks as required.
  • Maintain accurate records across multiple computer systems.
  • Monitor stock levels and assist with inventory management.
  • Ensure equipment is safe, functional, and compliant with service requirements.
  • Contribute to a positive team environment focused on excellent customer service.

You will need to have excellent communication skills, being able to work within a team to assist effective client/patient care planning and effective discharge and promoting an empowerment model of care and maintain great working relationships with key members of the team.

You will report to the Kaitakitaki Operations Manager – Allied Health. You will also work closely alongside other Allied Health Clinicians and Assistants.

About you

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • A practical, hands-on approach to work and the ability to manage competing priorities.
    • Be flexible and willing to learn.
    • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
    • The ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
    • Cultural sensitivity
    • A commitment to delivering high-quality, person-centred service.
    • Confidence using a range of computer systems and databases, with strong data-entry and record-keeping skills.
    • Experience working in a healthcare, rehabilitation, disability support, equipment service, warehouse, stock control, or logistics environment.
    • Clean current full NZ driver's license.
    • Hold the legal right to work in New Zealand (this role is not eligible for visa sponsorship)
  • Physically fit and able to lift (as per patient handling guidelines)
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Experience and knowledge of personal functional equipment, such as bathing, toileting, mobility, and positioning equipment.
  • Understanding of manual handling principles and/or patient care practices.
