Occupational Therapist at Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Whanganui, Manawatu / Whanganui

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Occupational Therapist to work in a fixed term fulltime position within our community mental health and addiction services. The successful applicant must have experience in quality occupational therapy assessment, intervention, evaluation and advice that meets professional standards, legislative requirements and Te Whatu Ora Whanganui policy to support people to achieve positive health and wellbeing outcomes in their recovery.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Whanganui community mental health and addiction services provide specialist assessment, intervention, caseload management and evaluation to support service user/tangata whaiora and their family/whanau in recovery. To support a whole of health and wellbeing approach to support best outcomes and recovery for people who utilise Whanganui Te Whatu Ora Community Mental Health and Addictions Services (CMHAS) through a range of therapeutically based interventions.

The position works in accordance with Te Whatu Ora Whanganui policy of operations and meets professional standards, legislative requirements.

About you

This position requires you to have several essential skills and knowledge requirements beyond the normal relevant tertiary qualification, NZ registration with a professional body and current Annual Practicing Certificate.

Requirements for this position are:

  • The ability to demonstrate high levels of clinical knowledge in mental health disorders, psychiatric and addiction medications, and the management of risk.
  • Practice based therapeutic modes of intervention in a person centred, family friendly, recovery model.
  • Three years minimum experience working with case load management, delivering clinical and psychosocial care in a variety of community settings and proven practical experience as a registered Occupational Therapy in clinical settings, adult mental health and addiction in mental health is preferred.
  • High levels of communication, customer relations and managing diversity skills, empathy and bi-cultural sensitivity.
  • Be a provider of educational and community information that is supportive of the needs to the service users/tangata whaiora and their family/whanau
  • Competent computer skills in Microsoft word and ability to learn computer software packages quickly, a police clearance and current clean driver's license are also required.
  • Have a compassionate and enthusiastic understanding for mental health well-being and ability to deliver interventions that is reflective of Health New Zealand/Te Whatu Ora – Whanganui He Hapori Ora - Thriving Communities strategic direction 2020-2023.
