Fracture Liaison Coordinator at Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua MidCentral, Manawatu / Whanganui

  • Location: Palmerston North Hospital,  Permanent part time (0.6FTE)

About the Role

The Fracture Liaison Coordinator has a key role in the delivery of care and service development of a secondary fracture prevention programme. This includes the provision of specialist clinical experience, in patient care and the support of other members of the multi-disciplinary team, to ensure a fracture risk assessment and treatment (where appropriate) is delivered to all individuals with fragility fractures.

This is a 0.6 FTE permanent position.

 This position would suit a Registered Nurse with a current annual practicing certificate. A current driver's licence is essential.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The purpose of the FLS is to ensure that all patients aged 50 years or over, who present to all urgent care services with a fragility fracture, undergo fracture risk assessment and receive treatment in accordance with the Guidance on the Diagnosis and Management of Osteoporosis in New Zealand. The FLS also ensures that falls risk is addressed among older patients through referral to appropriate local falls prevention services.

About you

  • Registered Nurse with a current New Zealand annual practicing certificate
  • Minimum PG DIP and willingness to work towards additional qualifications in this specialty
  • Minimum 5 years post registration with advanced clinical experience within a relevant area of nursing/specialty
  • Expert knowledge pertaining to Osteoporosis and fragility fractures
  • Skilled at expert physical assessment, history taking, diagnostic reasoning and pharmacology knowledge pertaining to Osteoporosis
  • Professional portfolio at Level 4 (or working toward)
