About the Role

In this role you will be supporting the work of the Occupational Therapist working on the Older Adult Mental Health Service ward assisting in their recovery and supporting them to transition home from the hospital.

You will be part of the team working to support the recovery of those following a period of illness and supporting people to transition home from the hospital to the community.

As an Occupational Therapy Assistant you will be undertaking occupational therapy interventions with clients under direction and delegation from an Occupational Therapist. You will complete documentation, provide support around the interventions and the Occupational therapy program with patients on the ward.  Under the direction of an Occupational Therapist you will support clients to complete activities of daily living tasks with clients as part of their recovery program, participate in running group activities and complete administrative duties.  Excellent remuneration is available.

About you

As an Occupational Therapy Assistant you will be:

  • Enthusiastic, energetic, resilient, with a ‘can do' attitude
  • Able to work under pressure and direction with the ability to adapt to new ways of working
  • Effective in written, oral and computer skills with an ability to communicate with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and culture
  • Qualified with a minimum of Career Force Level 3 Health and Wellbeing/Assistant strand or equivalent qualification
  • Have experience in working with older adults with mental illness
  • Displaying a strong desire to help clients and whānau achieve their goals
