About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Anaesthetic Technician to join our dynamic Perioperative Services team at MidCentral.

In this key clinical role, you will work in partnership with Anaesthetists and Intensive Care Specialists to deliver safe, high-quality anaesthesia care across a diverse range of patients, including both adults and paediatrics. You will be an integral member of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to excellent patient outcomes across operating theatres, procedural areas, PACU, ICU support, and off-site clinical services.

This role offers variety and scope, with opportunities to extend your practice into areas such as PACU, scrub assistance, and PICC line insertion, depending on service needs and your level of experience.

You will also play an important role in education and workforce development, supporting student and new graduate Anaesthetic Technicians and contributing to a culture of learning, safety, and continuous improvement.

This position participates in a 24-hour rotating roster, including on-call duties.

About the Team/Service

Our Anaesthetic Technician team at MidCentral is a skilled, supportive group of clinicians dedicated to delivering safe, high-quality perioperative care.

We work closely with Anaesthetists, ICU and theatre teams, and wider multidisciplinary staff to ensure seamless, patient-centred care across a range of clinical settings, including operating theatres, PACU, and extended practice areas.

The team has a strong culture of collaboration, education, and professional development, actively supporting students and new staff while maintaining a focus on continuous improvement and clinical excellence.

About you

You are a confident, clinically experienced Anaesthetic Technician who is committed to delivering safe, evidence-based, and patient and whānau-centred care. You thrive in a collaborative environment and are passionate about teaching, quality improvement, and professional development.

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

Essential Requirements

  • A recognised qualification in Anaesthetic Technology, such as:
    • Diploma in Applied Science (Anaesthetic Technology)
    • Graduate Certificate in Applied Science (Anaesthetic Technology)
    • Bachelor of Health Science (Perioperative Practice), or equivalent
  • Current registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand and a valid Annual Practising Certificate
  • Proven clinical competence in anaesthetic practice
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills
  • Experience in clinical teaching, supervision, or mentoring
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and evidence-based practice
  • Understanding of clinical governance and quality improvement
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and achieving equitable outcomes for Māori
  • Full NZ driver's licence (manual and automatic required for on-call duties)

Desirable

  • Membership of the New Zealand Anaesthetic Technicians' Society
