About the Role
Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua MidCentral are looking for a Respiratory Physician to join our team based at Palmerston North Hospital providing specialist secondary care services to the MidCentral region. This position would be suitable for an experienced or a newly qualified specialist.
The position involves the provision of general respiratory inpatient and outpatient services including fibreoptic bronchoscopy, EBUS and reporting on sleep studies and respiratory lung function tests. With the introduction of a linear EBUS service 3 years ago, competency in performing linear EBUS is essential. This position may also include participation in the general medicine on call roster for the weekend depending on scope approval with MCNZ.
About the Team & Hospital
The Respiratory team currently comprises of three experienced Respiratory Physicians, it also includes nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, sleep and respiratory laboratory technicians/physiologists, and respiratory physiotherapists. There is an accredited respiratory lung function laboratory including provision of Cardiopulmonary exercise testing. The sleep service includes a dedicated sleep room for overnight polysomnography testing. The respiratory service provides comprehensive specialist outpatient and inpatient respiratory services, and primary health care support including community-based clinics. Supporting services on site include radiology, nuclear medicine, radiation and medical oncology. The oncology services covers lung cancer treatment for a wider region including Whanganui, Taranaki and Hawkes Bay in addition to Palmerston North. There is a linear EBUS service to support lung cancer investigations. Cardiothoracic surgical services are provided in Wellington as the tertiary centre.

About you
Applicants must be eligible for vocational registration in Internal Medicine with the Medical Council of New Zealand with specialist training / qualification in Respiratory Medicine, as well as having demonstrated clinical, management, and teaching skills and the ability to work effectively within the multi-disciplinary team. Competency in performing linear EBUS is essential, as well as the ability to communicate effectively in English.
