Medical Oncology Registrars (Advanced Trainees)

About the Role

Looking to progress in your training as a Medical Oncology Advanced Trainee Registrar?

MidCentral District is accredited for 24 months of Advanced Training in Medical Oncology, offering an excellent opportunity to develop advanced clinical expertise within a supportive regional tertiary service.

 

The Service

MidCentral District provides a regional tertiary Cancer Treatment Service, delivering:

  • Medical Oncology
  • Haematology
  • Radiation Oncology

Care is provided to a large population across the following Te Whatu Ora | Health New Zealand districts:

  • MidCentral
  • Taranaki
  • Whanganui
  • Hawke's Bay

This broad catchment ensures exposure to a diverse and complex oncology caseload, with strong multidisciplinary engagement.

 

The Role

As one of three Medical Oncology Advanced Trainees, you will primarily work in outpatient clinics, which form a major component of the role. You will:

  • Participate in local oncology clinics
  • Share responsibility for regional outreach clinics
  • Provide inpatient support in collaboration with:
    • Medical Oncologists
    • A Medical Registrar
    • House Officers

This structure allows for well‑supervised, progressive responsibility and comprehensive training across outpatient and inpatient oncology care.

 

On‑Call Commitments

  • Weekdays: 4.00 pm – 11.00 pm
  • Weekends: 8.00 am – 11.00 pm
  • Call frequency: 1 in 12, providing a manageable and sustainable roster

About you

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand or be eligible for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. You can check your eligibility for registration by visiting the Council's website at www.mcnz.org.nz.
  • Completed RACP Basic Training, including the written and clinical examinations.
