About the Role

We are seeking a Digitisation Bureau Operator to join our Clinical Records team at Palmerston North Hospital.

In this role, you will play an essential part in maintaining the integrity of clinical health records by digitising and managing patient documentation within our electronic health record system. Working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, you will be responsible for the preparation, scanning, indexing, classification, and quality assurance of clinical records.

This is a varied role where operators are cross-trained across all bureau functions and work collaboratively to meet key performance indicators. Your attention to detail, technical aptitude, and commitment to quality will be critical in ensuring accurate and timely access to health information for clinicians and patients.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Proven experience working with multiple computer applications and systems
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • The ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines in a high-volume environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and technical aptitude
  • Effective communication and relationship-building skills
  • A positive, adaptable approach and commitment to continuous improvement

Previous experience within the health sector, knowledge of medical terminology, or experience with electronic records systems would be advantageous.

About the Team/Service

The Digitisation Bureau is an integral part of Health Information Management, supporting clinicians, administrators, and healthcare services across Palmerston North Hospital and Horowhenua Health Centre. The team is responsible for ensuring clinical documentation is accurately processed and available within electronic health records, enabling safe and efficient patient care.

Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua – MidCentral is a 350-bed hospital in the city of Palmerston North, Manawatū, a city in the Lower North Island of New Zealand. Palmerston North Hospital is a secondary hospital and offers most medical and surgical specialties with the exception of Cardiothoracic, Plastic and Neurosurgery. The hospital serves a local population of 180,000 but is the base for a regional head and neck oncology service which has responsibility for a population of 550,000 and draws patients from Whanganui, Taranaki, and Hawke's Bay.
