About the Role

MidCentral District offers excellent opportunities for non‑training Orthopaedic Registrars seeking to embark on, or further develop, a career in Orthopaedic Surgery.

Our service provides a strong foundation in orthopaedics, with a clear focus on the training and development of surgical skills, which we are proud to deliver in a supportive and hands‑on environment. Registrars gain broad exposure across a wide range of elective orthopaedic procedures, alongside a high‑volume trauma workload, ensuring comprehensive experience in both planned and acute care.

This role is well suited to motivated doctors looking to consolidate core orthopaedic competencies, build operative confidence, and strengthen their preparation for future training opportunities.

Palmerston North Regional Hospital is the main hospital in the MidCentral Region. About you

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand or be eligible for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. (Check eligibility on www.mcnz.org.nz.)
  • Completed PGY2 or equivalent.
  • Completion of GSSE exam or equivalent would be an advantage but not a key requirement.
