About the Role

We have an opportunity for a Registered Nurse to join our Orthopaedics team at Palmerston North Hospital.

In this role, you will work in partnership with patients and their whānau and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to provide safe, high-quality and cost-effective nursing care. Your practice will align with the nursing philosophy, professional and organisational standards, policies and procedures.

You will undertake comprehensive nursing assessments, contribute to care planning, support patients to make informed decisions and evaluate their progress towards expected outcomes. You will also maintain accurate clinical documentation, respond appropriately to changes in patient condition and contribute to safe discharge planning and continuity of care.

About you

To succeed in this role, you will have:

• Registration as a Registered Nurse with a current practising certificate.
• An understanding of the revised Registered Nurse scope of practice.
• Effective communication skills across a range of situations.
• The ability to work collaboratively and manage tension between people.
• Good computer literacy.
• Acute surgical experience in a ward environment.
• Orthopaedic experience, which would be advantageous.

You will practise within your scope, maintain your professional development and required certifications, and demonstrate a commitment to culturally safe care, Te Tiriti o Waitangi and improving Māori health outcomes.

About the Team/Service

The Orthopaedics team provides patient-centred nursing care within an acute surgical ward environment. You will work closely with patients, whānau and other health professionals to coordinate care, support recovery and contribute to quality improvement activities.

Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua – MidCentral is a 350-bed hospital in the city of Palmerston North, Manawatū, a city in the Lower North Island of New Zealand. Palmerston North Hospital is a secondary hospital and offers most medical and surgical specialties with the exception of Cardiothoracic, Plastic and Neurosurgery. The hospital serves a local population of 180,000 but is the base for a regional head and neck oncology service which has responsibility for a population of 550,000 and draws patients from Whanganui, Taranaki, and Hawke's Bay.
