About the Role

As a Kaitautoko within the Kāinga Whakatipu delivery team, you will visit eligible hapū māmā, tamariki and whānau/aiga in their homes. You will provide healthy housing education, complete healthy housing assessments and work alongside whānau to develop practical intervention plans that support warm, dry and healthy living environments.

Based in Taitoko/Levin, you will cover the Horowhenua District and Ōtaki for most of your time and support whānau in Palmerston North as required, depending on workload across the rohe. You will manage a caseload, connect whānau with services and resources, and build strong relationships with iwi partners, community organisations, health providers and government agencies.

About you

You will bring a whānau-centred approach, sound judgement and a genuine commitment to improving housing-related health outcomes.

You will also have:

• Relevant experience in health, social services, whānau ora, housing, community development or a related field
• Experience building trusted relationships with whānau in their own homes
• Knowledge of the social determinants of health and the impact of housing on wellbeing
• Strong communication, relationship-building, organisation and time management skills
• A commitment to equitable outcomes for Māori and Pacific peoples and the ability to apply Te Tiriti o Waitangi meaningfully in your work
• The ability to work autonomously and collaboratively across agencies and communities
• Competent computer skills, the ability to maintain accurate records and a current driver licence

Desirable: Previous experience in a similar role, established relationships with local iwi organisations and social services, and experience delivering programmes that improve whānau health outcomes.

About the Team/Service

Kāinga Whakatipu is the Healthy Homes Initiative provider for the MidCentral rohe. The service identifies eligible whānau/aiga living in cold and damp homes, completes housing and whānau assessments, and works across services and agencies to facilitate access to practical interventions and education.

A key part of the delivery model is partnering with manawhenua iwi to recruit and support local kaimahi. In this role, you will work closely with Muaūpoko Tribal Authority, Raukawa Whānau Ora Services and Te Puna Oranga o Ōtaki.

Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua – MidCentral is a 350-bed hospital in the city of Palmerston North, Manawatū, a city in the Lower North Island of New Zealand. Palmerston North Hospital is a secondary hospital and offers most medical and surgical specialties with the exception of Cardiothoracic, Plastic and Neurosurgery. The hospital serves a local population of 180,000 but is the base for a regional head and neck oncology service which has responsibility for a population of 550,000 and draws patients from Whanganui, Taranaki, and Hawke's Bay.
