Senior Project Coordinator at Te Whatu Ora, Manawatu / Whanganui

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is the country's largest employer, delivering universal public healthcare to 5 million New Zealanders.

We provide essential hospital, specialist, and community health services across 80+ locations — from large urban centres to rural towns and remote communities.

Our goal is to improve health outcomes for all New Zealanders by delivering equitable, accessible and innovative care.

About the Role

As a Senior Project Coordinator, you will play a critical role in supporting the delivery of major infrastructure projects across Aotearoa. Working within the Infrastructure & Investment Group (IIG), you will ensure project processes are consistently applied, project documentation is accurate and timely, and governance visibility remains strong.

In this role, you will work closely with Project Directors, project teams, and functional business partners to maintain alignment with organisational systems, reporting standards, financial processes, and compliance requirements. You'll support payment workflows, progress claims, variations, and commercial documentation, ensuring information is accurate and decision‑ready

Your strong coordination skills, attention to detail, and ability to communicate effectively across stakeholders will be essential to keeping project activities on track and well‑organised.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The IIG team are focused on delivering high impact infrastructure investments that support the transformation of New Zealand's health system.

Giving support, oversight and assurance across projects and programmes, the team understand that safe, fit for purpose health facilities, sites and equipment are essential for a well-functioning health system that improves the health of all New Zealanders.

About you

You are an experienced Project Coordinator with a strong background in financial workflows, governance reporting, and project administration within complex or large‑scale programmes. You can navigate ambiguity, prioritise effectively, and maintain quality under pressure.

You excel at building strong, respectful relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. You bring a disciplined, proactive approach to project coordination, backed by strong written and verbal communication skills and an eye for detail.

You will bring:

  • 5+ years' experience in project coordination or administration within complex environments
  • A relevant qualification in construction, engineering, project management, finance, or a related area, or equivalent experience
  • Strong understanding of project financial workflows (payments, progress claims, variations)
  • Experience producing governance documentation and status reports
  • Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how to apply its principles in your work
  • Excellent prioritisation, organisation, and relationship management capability
