About the role:
The function of this role is to be the Coordinator of the Health Promotion Team and is responsible for the day-to-day operational leadership, resource utilisation and coordination of planning, delivery and evaluation across a range of programme areas.
Also undertaking the primary responsibility for providing professional leadership, coaching and mentoring of health promotion staff within Te Whatu Ora – Whanganui rohe.
Including the leadership role in developing effective evidence-based health promotion practice and ensuring that staff are achieving and maintaining the requisite competencies.
Key requirements:
• Tertiary level qualification or equivalent demonstrated experience knowledge and skills – preferably in public health or health promotion.
• Experience of working with intersectoral and health service providers.
• Excellent communication and relationship leadership skills.
• Experience in people leadership and management
• A high level of cultural competence
• Sound understanding of government health policy. Demonstrated public health or health promotion knowledge through work experience or academic undertaking.
• Knowledge of health services quality systems and experience in monitoring health services.
• Clear police check and vulnerable children check.
• Full NZ driver's license.

About us:
The National Public Health Service and its partners work alongside whānau, communities and other sectors to consider all the factors that impact on health and wellbeing, and deliver national, regional and local programmes to achieve pae ora.
The new National Public Health Service brings together functions from Te Hiringa Hauora, the Ministry of Health, and public health units into a unified operational service. It works towards pae ora (healthy futures) by engaging with the wider determinants that impact on people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection and population-level intervention.
The National Public Health Service partners with the Māori Health Authority and the Public Health Agency to work alongside whānau, communities, and other sectors, drawing on Mātauranga Māori and data to provide health promotion, prevention and health protection at local, regional and national levels.
People in public health focus on environmental health, communicable disease control, tobacco control and health promotion programmes. Many of these services include a regulatory component performed by statutory officers appointed under various statutes, though principally under the Health Act 1956.
