Ko te kaupapa | About the role
The opportunity has arisen for a motivated, enthusiastic, senior midwife or LMC to join our maternity team as the Midwifery Clinical Coach.
You will deliver practical clinical education in the workplace and demonstrate effective, evidence informed and culturally safe practice. You will work closely with new graduate midwives (MFYP), staff new to the maternity service or clinical area, and midwives on Return to Practice (RTP) programmes to support their transition to confident practitioners in the clinical setting. You will act as supervisor to internationally qualified midwives registering in New Zeala
You will also be able to work with midwives who need to refresh their clinical skills or knowledge during a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP).
You will be responsible for promoting a learning environment within the clinical setting that encourages and strengthens development of midwifery clinical skills and knowledge, thereby reducing staff stress and consequently supporting staff retention.

Whanganui Hospital Maternity Unit is classed as a Secondary Maternity Facility, providing three birthing rooms - each have their own birthing pool and 11 inpatient bed units (14 beds in total).
Whanganui Hospital maternity service has a high normal birth rate, long history of water births, low intervention rates, low caesarean rates. We are a small dedicated team with a commitment to providing women with optimal healthcare through women-centred and appropriate clinical assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation and education.
Te Whatu Ora - Whanganui serves an estimated population of 68,395 and includes residents of the Whanganui and Rangitikei Territorial Authority areas, as well as the Ruapehu Territorial Authority area wards of Waimarino and Waiouru – known as South Ruapehu.
The community we provide care to is semi-rural – rural with Māori making up 27.3% of our population (compared to the New Zealand average of 16.6%) and small but growing populations of Pacific and Asian people.
