About our service:
MHAS is responsible for the commissioning and delivery of primary, specialist, and community mental health & addiction services across a diverse urban and rural population of 186,000.
We provide treatment for and connection to recovery-orientated services for individuals experiencing mental illness or addiction issues. Services are delivered across the continuum of lifespan, both regionally and locally, and include specialist community MH&A teams, kaupapa (Māori), Child Adolescent Mental Health Services, inpatient services, crisis response, acute alternatives, specialist primary mental health service, consultation-liaison MH, and specially designed residential programmes.
MHAS has embarked on a programme of transformational change for adult and crisis services, which sees a fundamental shift in the way services are delivered. Services are moving towards a wellness and recovery-focused approach in our community that prioritises access, choice, and care closer to home. The change sees significant investment into digital technologies and new infrastructure including the construction of a new “greenfield” state-of-the-art acute inpatient unit.

Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua – MidCentral is a 350-bed hospital in the city of Palmerston North, Manawatū, a city in the Lower North Island of New Zealand. Palmerston North Hospital is a secondary hospital and offers most medical and surgical specialties with the exception of Cardiothoracic, Plastic and Neurosurgery. The hospital serves a local population of 180,000 but is the base for a regional head and neck oncology service which has responsibility for a population of 550,000 and draws patients from Whanganui, Taranaki, and Hawke's Bay. Employing over 2500 people, MidCentral offers a supportive work environment that accepts and values all employees. - CAHMS
- Community
- Consultation Liaison
- Alcohol and other drug services including an OST service (Medical Officer)
