Are you an Anaesthesia Registrar looking for an opportunity to grow and develop your anaesthesia skills? Then MidCentral District has the perfect opportunity for you!
We are looking for a dynamic and adaptableAnaesthesia Registrar with prior experiencein independent basic anaesthesia. (At least six months). Applicants must have completed their initial assessment of competency in obstetric anaesthesia (usually equates to CT2/3 in UK).
MidCentral District can offer the successful candidate an excellent environment to grow their confidence and independence in their general anaesthetic practice as well as learn new skills.
We are a 350 bedded teaching hospital located in the very conveniently placed city of Palmerston North. MidCentral District is a provider of specialist services in Upper GI, ENT, urology and oncology, bringing a range of complex surgeries. There are currently 7 Theatres with development already underway to expand to 9 theatres plus 2 procedure rooms and a cardiac lab.
We can offer you:
- A wide range of obstetric and paediatric case load.
- A group of consultants interested in difficult airway management with innovative techniques (e.g., Jet ventilation, THRIVE).
- Regional anaesthesia is encouraged in our practice with most anaesthetists proficient in ultrasound guided nerve blocks.
- There is a regular CPEX and multidisciplinary high-risk peri-operative clinic for consultants with an interest and experience in assessment and optimisation of higher risk patients and procedures.
We highly value the role of registrars within our department and we work hard to provide the environment and caseload to the individual trainee to maximise their development. We have a very good reputation of providing study leave and support for FANZCA examinations along with general pastoral support which is reflected in our college exam pass rate within Australasia.
MidCentral District is part of the training rotation with Wellington, Hutt, Nelson/Marlborough, Whanganui, and Hawkes Bay.
The department has 24 full time Consultant Anaesthetists. We are a diverse, supportive, and collegial department with regular social events.
The city of Palmerston North is a diverse and vibrant city, that is very livable and affordable. There is no sitting in traffic as a 5 – 15 minutes commute is the norm. There is lots to do locally or with its central location it is easy to get away for the weekend to all the major attractions of Lower North Island - 2 hours' drive away from the vibrant capital of Wellington, the wineries of Hawkes Bay and the ski fields of Ruapehu
