About the Role
We are seeking a General Radiologist to join our friendly and supportive team at Whanganui Hospital. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a modern, well-equipped rural hospital where your contribution will truly make a difference.
Our Radiology Department provides comprehensive inpatient, emergency, and outpatient imaging services and is equipped with:
- MRI and CT scanners
- Digital x-ray rooms
- Ultrasound suites
- Fluoroscopy
While we are a smaller service, we are highly collaborative and patient-focused, with multidisciplinary teams that consistently deliver high-quality care. Patient pathology is varied and interesting can cover the full scope of a general radiologist.
This role offers a balanced workload of approximately 70% clinical and 30% non-clinical time, supporting:
- Image interpretation across CT, MRI, x-ray, and ultrasound
- Vetting and protocoling imaging requests
- Collaboration with referring clinicians
- Support and guidance for Medical Imaging Technologists (MITs)
There are also opportunities to contribute to:
- Teaching and mentoring (house officers and registrars within the regional network)
- Service development and quality improvement initiatives
About the Team/Service/ Location
Whanganui Hospital is located on the West coast of New Zealand's North Island with a wide range of services including emergency medicine, general medicine, general surgery, orthopaedics, O&G, ENT, ophthalmology, dentistry and psychiatry. We serve a population of approximately 65,000 residents and serves as a central hub for the 16,000 people residing in the surrounding districts across the region.
The Radiology Service at Whanganui Hospital is a small, collegial, and supportive team committed to delivering safe, effective, and patient-centred care.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will:
- Hold vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, or
- Be an overseas-trained Radiologist eligible for MCNZ registration
