We're looking for a proven leader to become the Deputy General Manager, Community Operations within Communities Partnerships and Pathways, Otago/Southland region.
The role is responsible for community operations across their region, enabling and empowering Lead Service Managers to achieve desired outcomes for individuals under our management, in alignment with Hōkai Rangi. This role is integral to the regional leadership team, emphasising a profound understanding of local requirements to ensure personalised and efficient delivery of Community Corrections services.

To be successful in this position you will need to have solid leadership experience and thrive on influencing change – at the same time you will need to be comfortable to manage operational requirements in a sometimes very challenging environment!
As an experienced leader you will have well developed relationship management skills which are essential as the role requires significant internal, community and stakeholder engagement.
Also pivotal for this role will be your ability to take the Department and Regional strategy and vision and translate this into operational actions for the team to deliver.
Your depth in leadership will include the required Knowledge, Skills & Experience for this role:
- Proven management experience in a role requiring development, resource management, communication, relationship management and practical leadership skills.
- Experience in the implementation and maintenance of processes to ensure delivery is line with legislation, policy, and procedures.
- Knowledge of the factors impacting rehabilitation and reintegration, coupled with a sound working knowledge of key agencies, both governmental and non-governmental, in the social/justice sectors.
- An understanding of the operational management practices and risks that relate to community probation, case management and bail support that Community Corrections services deliver.
- Ability to understand and articulate the issues and concerns of team members, reacting efficiently to ensure resource allocation meets needs.
- Can operate effectively in a Māori cultural setting (Te Reo, Tikanga and an understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi).
- An understanding of justice sector trends and issues and the cultural, political and social environments of Corrections service delivery.
- Experience in building and leading a high performing team with demonstrated experience in coaching and mentoring.
- Proven ability to deliver within clear standards and expectations for direct reports and manage individual performance, whilst fostering a strong team culture.
Utu ā-tau | Salary
The salary range for this role spans 6 steps from $151,147 to $173,925 per annum and is Salary Scale D of the Frontline Managers Collective. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role in line with the conditions of the collective agreement.
