Associate Director, Specialist Audit and Assurance Services

The Specialist Audit and Assurance Services (SAAS) team provides expert advice (mostly non-financial) to support Audit New Zealand's core annual audit activity and to public entities.

The Associate Director will be responsible for delivering specialist procurement, contract management, project management, asset management, risk management, and governance audit services to internal and external clients. We're looking for individuals who can bring their audit experience to the SAAS Team and have the desire and commitment to develop their skills in these specialist audit areas.

Ideally, you'll bring some experience in one or more of these specialist areas, but you will be supported in developing your skills.

You'll need a sound appreciation and knowledge of financial, political, and professional risks and issues that affect the public sector, Audit New Zealand, and the Office of the Auditor-General. We expect that your initial focus will be audit support work in the specialist areas.

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • work with audit staff to identify and deliver specialist advice and support for the core annual audit work;
  • coordinate and deliver training to the wider business;
  • identify and secure opportunities to provide specialist assurance services to public entities;
  • develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external clients;
  • adhere to our quality procedures and processes;
  • participate in Audit New Zealand's wider leadership team, including participating in national Director and Manager events; and
  • lead at a local level, to help ensure that staff in the local office understand the broader context of client risks and our work and receive appropriate advice.
