Fire and Emergency New Zealand is a Crown Entity established on 1 July 2017 under the Fire and Emergency Services Act 2017. The role of our new organisation is to reduce unwanted fires, respond to structural and vegetation fires and other emergencies including motor vehicle crashes, medical emergencies, hazardous substance related incidents, natural disasters and support increased community resilience.

Are you looking for an opportunity to make an impact in one of New Zealand's fastest growing areas? We have a Fixed Term vacancy for a Fire Risk Management Officer to assist in the delivery of superior fire risk management services to the Auckland City Fire Area. This is an 18 Month Fixed Term role and primary duties involve working to reduce the incidence and consequences of fire to the New Zealand public and local businesses.

You will be responsible for:

  • identifying community fire risk and delivery of targeted risk reduction, education and promotional programmes
  • working with building owners and stakeholders and fire alarm companies, to reduce false alarms
  • qualifying as a specialist fire investigator and supporting the on-call fire investigation roster
  • providing quality technical support and back-up to fire investigations
  • provision of quality advice to building owners and other stakeholders regarding fire risk management including evacuation schemes, alarm systems and water supply requirements.

Suitable candidates must have:

  • well-developed interpersonal, presentation, coordination and influencing skills
  • experience working with a variety of stakeholders to deliver on the Fire and Emergency strategy as well as local plans
  • strong networking and relationship building skills
  • excellent attention to detail and above average computer literacy
  • preference will be given to those candidates who have a qualification in risk management or operational analysis and who also have previous operational fire and emergency experience.

Experience in an educational or training environment could also be advantageous.
