About the team

This is an exciting time to join the Health, Safety and Welfare team here at the Southern DHB as we go through a period of change and improvement. You will be joining a motivated team of professionals to assist in the implementation of the health, safety and welfare management system, documentation and risk management across the Southern district which includes Otago, Southland and Central Otago/Lakes.

About the role

Reporting into a new Health and Welfare Manager, and working alongside experienced Occupational Health Nurses you will function as clinician, educator, consultant and manager. You will provide oversight, vision and support for the Southern DHB management and employees in all aspects of workplace occupational health management.

Key deliverables of this role will involve (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Promoting a comprehensive workplace health promotion strategy providing support for employees across the SDHB district
  • Ensuring that the injury management and prevention programme is fit for purpose and meets the tertiary requirements of the ACC Partnership Programme
  • Developing, managing and communicating all SDHB occupational health policies, procedures and standards
  • Developing and delivering a robust health monitoring programme
  • Managing the SDHB worker vaccination programme
  • Providing clinical support, advice and direction for all work related and non-work related injuries and illnesses.

About you

To succeed in this newly created role, it is critical that you bring the following skills and experience:

  • Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand as a Registered Nurse
  • Current Nursing Council of New Zealand annual practicing certificate
  • Current vaccinator's certificate
  • Qualified in adult teaching or demonstrate equivalent experience
  • Hold, as a minimum, a competent Professional Development and Recognition Programme (PDRP)
  • Ideally five or more years experience within an occupational health and safety role
  • Experience in the development and delivery of workplace ergonomic programmes
  • Management of injuries and prevention
