Job Description

Dunedin / Invercargill

Permanent

If you are a Consultant Gastroenterologist, or advanced trainee nearing completion of training, who is interested in a role with our great progressive team and DHB, we would love to hear from you now. We have opportunities for specialist Gastroenterologists within a progressive department that is affiliated with the University of Otago. Our Gastroenterology service welcomes applications for positions starting as soon as possible, and there is also room for flexibility to negotiate the hours of work and length of employment with successful applicants.

With some of New Zealand's most famous scenery and holiday spots on our doorstep (Queenstown, Wanaka, Milford Sound, Stewart Island, to name but a few) our region offers affordable living, great schools, and true work-life balance and a relaxed way of life with no traffic jams in sight. Dunedin is a vibrant University town and a great place to live and work. Invercargill is situated at the base of the South Island and the people are renowned for their warmth and hospitality.

You will have the opportunity to work across the District and you'll get to work within our comprehensive range of Gastroenterology services at both of our main hospitals, located in Dunedin and Invercargill, as well as outpatient clinics in other areas of the district. Dunedin Hospital has 350 beds and provides care for a population of approximately 180,000. Southland Hospital, in Invercargill has 180 beds and provides care for a population of approximately 100,000. The two main hospitals in Southern DHB provide care for the population of the whole of the lower South Island.

You will participate in a 1:5 on-call roster and provide a full range of Gastroenterology services alongside an enthusiastic group of colleagues. The service has recently opened new endoscopy facilities in Dunedin and is in the planning phase for the new Dunedin Hospital (due open in 2023) so there will be opportunities to contribute to this development. There are also unlimited possibilities for laboratory and clinical based research and there is plenty of scope for collaboration with like-minded researchers. To be successful you'll need to have enthusiasm for teaching and be a team player with a commitment to improving and developing service delivery quality.

Southern DHB has all major specialties, including interventional radiology, tertiary level care in neurosurgery and cardiothoracic surgery and the region is well served by an excellent helicopter retrieval service.

Appointed specialists will possess FRACP or an equivalent qualification. Trainees within a few months of completing FRACP training are welcome to express an interest.

If you see your future working with us as part of a specialist team in a teaching environment then please get in touch now.
