About the Southern DHB

Southern District Health Board (Southern DHB) exists to support everyone across our district to live well, and access the right care when they need it, by delivering high quality, patient-centred and equitable health services to our diverse communities.

We are responsible for planning, funding and providing health and disability services to a population of over 315,000 located South of the Waitaki River. Our catchment area encompasses Invercargill City, Queenstown - Lakes District, Gore, rural Southland, Clutha, Central Otago, Maniototo, Waitaki District and Dunedin City. This means Southern DHB serves the largest geographic region of all New Zealand's health boards.

About the team

The Inpatient Mental Health Unit is a purpose built modern facility where care is provided by a multidisciplinary team with a broad background of experience. We work in close partnership with community teams, allied health care professionals and local education providers to facilitate a working environment that is supportive, challenging and reflects evidence of ongoing professional growth whilst meeting the needs of a diverse population with mental illness. The geographic region we serve is unique and so we see a hugely varied caseload.

About you

We are looking for an experienced nurse (New Zealand Registered, with a current Annual Practising Certificate) to join the team as part of a Collaborative Model of Nursing Care team.

Ideally we're looking for a Registered Nurse with relevant mental health nursing experience (preferably in an acute mental health setting) however if you think you have what we are looking for and have an interest in mental health then we look forward to hearing from you.

The location

With beautiful scenery and loads of attractions right on your doorstep there is always something do. There is also a lively restaurant and café scene, not to mention world class local attractions like Bill Richardson Transport World and Motorcycle Mecca.

The Southern district offers the benefits of excellent amenities, first class primary through to tertiary education, affordable housing and outstanding recreational opportunities. Whether it's surfing, kayaking or sailing; skiing, hunting or fishing; theatre, live-music or art - there's literally something for everyone. Check out https://southernhealthcareers.nz/ for what the region - and we - can offer you and your whanau.
