Job Description

Want to join our Inquiries team?

Senior Inquiries Specialist – Office of the Auditor-General

One of the Auditor-General's functions is to inquire into matters concerning a public entity's use of its resources. The Auditor-General can carry out an inquiry on their own initiative or on request from a member of the public, an employee, a member of Parliament, or another organisation.

Inquiries can be large or small and can cover a wide range of often complex issues. When deciding what to inquire into, we identify whether the matters might include:

  • financial impropriety;
  • conflicts of interest or problems with the public entity's overall governance or management; or
  • other systemic or significant concerns that might be important for the public entity, the sector it operates in, or the general public.

Our inquiries work is carried out by our Inquiries Team, which is part of the Legal Group. We are looking for a Senior Inquiries Specialist to be part of the team.

The Senior Inquiries Specialist will be involved in carrying out inquiries under the Public Audit Act 2001, working with the team and other parts of the office on issues, gathering information, analysing evidence, preparing reports and other outputs, and dealing with a wide range of people and entities, often at a senior level.

A tertiary qualification in law, accounting, or other relevant discipline and some post-qualification experience, preferably in the public sector (including central and local government), is essential for this position.

You must be able to gain a New Zealand Security Intelligence Service security clearance to apply for this position. See details below.

Remuneration will be based on your experience.

To find out more about us, see our website: www.oag.govt.nz.
