Commercial Procurement and Planning Coordinator at Department of Internal Affairs, Wellington - Wairarapa

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

Type: Permanent
Hours: Full time
Location: Wellington
Business Group:  Finance
Branch: Enterprise Services
Salary: $61,072 - $76,000

We're looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Commercial Procurement and Planning Coordinator to support our Commercial Services team. In this role, you'll help support procurement activities, manage key internal processes, help prepare reporting, support and lead capability and education-related initiatives, and provide general support that help to keep our operations running smoothly. You'll be the 'front door' to the Commercial Services team, managing our central inbox and providing advice and guidance across the organisation.

The Enterprise Services branch supports the Department at an enterprise level. Functions include legal, finance, human resources, communications, property management, health and safety, information management, security, and strategy, governance and risk. The Māori Capability Uplift Programme also sits within the branch.

The Commercial Services team is responsible for all things procurement and commercial at DIA. That means we're involved in everything from leading major procurement projects that shape the department's future, to providing practical commercial advice that helps teams make smart decisions, through to managing contracts and ensuring compliance. We're the trusted procurement and commercial advisor for the entire organisation - making sure processes run smoothly, suppliers deliver value, and DIA can focus on what matters most: serving New Zealanders.

This Commercial Procurement and Planning Coordinator role sits within the Commercial Services team, and reports to the Team Leader Commercial ICT & Capability.

What you'll do

  • Coordinate procurement and contract administration across ICT and Corporate teams
  • Maintain accurate databases and reporting systems
  • Support stakeholders with procurement advice and templates
  • Organise meetings, workshops, and education sessions to uplift commercial capability
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and special projects

We're looking for someone who is…

  • Super organised and great at keeping things on track
  • Comfortable working with databases (bonus points if you've dabbled in procurement – but it's not a dealbreaker!)
  • Clear communicator who builds great relationships
  • Confident with Microsoft Office – Outlook, Excel, Word – the usual toolkit
  • A team player who loves a busy environment and can run with things independently

Why join us?

At DIA, we're united by a spirit of service and guided by principles that put people first. You'll be part of a team that cares deeply about doing things right, working together, striving for excellence, and creating real value for those we serve.

Ready to take the next step?

Apply now and help us build a safe, prosperous, and respected nation. We are an equal opportunity employer that values diversity and inclusion. We recognise a diverse workforce contributes to better business outcomes. We are committed to creating a workplace where all employees have equal access.
