Our Protoshop team supports over 150 of NZ's leading scientists and engineers by providing precision machining and fabrication services, turning smart ideas into precision prototypes and accelerating customer R&D projects. We are establishing our Protoshop facilities as an exemplar for innovation showing how advanced manufacturing technologies can deliver tangible benefits for NZ businesses. The Advanced Manufacturing Technologists are a crucial part of the team delivering precision engineering services and implementing and showcasing the game changing benefits of new manufacturing technologies to customers.

We're looking for someone passionate about hosting stakeholders and sharing the advantages that advanced manufacturing technologies (equipment, systems and processes) can bring to business. You will fuel NZ business demand for innovation by demonstrating how manufacturing quality, flexibility and productivity can be improved, motivating customers to investment in emerging advanced manufacturing technologies (including Industry 4.0, automation, digital technologies). Your expertise in CAD/CAM, precision machining, fabrication, and metrology will empower NZ innovators and your knowledge of the NZ manufacturing sector will help connect the NZ innovation ecosystem.

To be successful in the role you will need the following:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge and experience with advanced manufacturing technologies (additive manufacturing, automation, IoT, Industry 4.0 and digital technologies)
  • A proven ability to develop, implement and demonstrate advanced manufacturing technologies to a wide range of stakeholders
  • An applied engineering qualification, relevant trade certificate or equivalent
  • Proven expertise in mechanical design using CAD and CAM packages (SolidWorks and GibbsCam advantageous)
  • Advanced skills and experience in precision machining (manual and CNC), fabrication, welding, general engineering, metrology and measurement
  • Experience in machine maintenance
  • Good knowledge of Health and Safety requirements in a workshop environment
