Position details:

WelTec School of Engineering currently has a vacancy for a Senior Technical Officer. This role will assist in meeting the technician requirements for the programmes delivered by the Engineering School including Automotive, Built Environment Engineering Diploma, Degree and Mechanical Trades'. This is a challenging role with variety and extensive opportunities to work with both tutors and students in a creative and dynamic engineering environment.

The role involves all aspects of Engineering with a high level of technical competence required. The key responsibilities as Senior Technical Officer will includes supervising the technician team in maintaining our engineering workshops and site facilities, coordinating and scheduling work, assisting tutors with class preparation, coordination of spare parts purchasing, inventory management of our extensive range of specialist tools and workshop equipment, and working as a member of a team.

This role requires the following key skills and attributes:

  • Advanced Engineering Technician level qualification preferably with an understanding and experience that crosses across disciplines (mechanical, and electrical)
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Previous working experience in a technician based environment along with good IT skills
  • High degree of customer focus and an ability to work with peers in a collegial, constructive manner
  • Well-developed planning and organisational skills
  • An ability to think on your feet, balance priorities and problem solve
