Job Description

The role

The Senior Policy Advisor role reports to the Manager, Policy and International and is part of the International, Policy and Design group. This team is responsible for our policy development work programme, and for developing and executing Callaghan Innovation's international engagement strategy. It also works closely with Callaghan Innovation's Strategy and Insights Group to support the setting and delivery of the organisation's strategic direction.

This role leads Callaghan Innovation's contribution to policy work in conjunction with MBIE and other agencies. The role also manages key government stakeholder relationships and provides support for Callaghan Innovation's Executive Leadership team and Board, such as producing and presenting Board papers.

To be successful you will have the following attributes and skills:

  • Tertiary qualification in public policy or related fields, or equivalent experience
  • Robust analytical skills
  • Proven experience and understanding of government processes and accountabilities
  • Previous experience delivering a programme of work to meet strategic priorities
  • Solid understanding of government processes and accountabilities
  • Proven professional credibility to engage effectively with senior leaders
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve issues, build networks of influence
  • Growth mind-set and digital savvy
  • Talented communicator with the ability to express information in a clear, concise, accurate, and coherent way
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others to achieve joint goals
  • A high level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Knowledge and experience of the global innovation eco-system and how NZ contributes to this would be an advantage
