Trainee Intelligence Analyst Salary Range: $46,535.00 - $52,352.00

Intelligence Analyst Salary Range: $59,333.00 - $76,785.00

Senior Intelligence Analyst Salary Range: $67,942.00 - $93,072.00

The Tasman District Intelligence unit, based at District Headquarters in Nelson, provides strategic, tactical and operational support to New Zealand Police staff across the Marlborough, Nelson Bays and West Coast policing areas. This is an exciting and evolving area to work in and we are seeking a talented, motivated and innovative individual to be part of our team.


The purpose of this role is to contribute to crime and crash reduction and the prevention and disruption of criminal activity by preparing intelligence documents which inform and support prevention, intervention and enforcement activities. The role within the organisation is to deliver (or enable others to deliver) 'Our Business'.

Skills and experience:

  • Demonstrate analytical thinking.
  • Apply structured analytical techniques to interpret information for intelligence analysis
  • Develop and apply intelligence processes and principles
  • Demonstrates experience in using a variety of tools and techniques to understand a problem, develop solutions and effectively influence and inform decision-making
  • Research, analyse, critically examine crime and criminality, and demonstrate experience in writing timely, and quality intelligence documents to assist decision makers (Analyst/Senior)
  • Manage competing demands and at times a high workload
  • Demonstrates experience in presenting (written and verbal) complex issues clearly to a range of audiences
  • Develop and maintain a wide range of professional relationships (internal and external)
  • Demonstrate experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) to develop a high standard of reports/presentations
  • Experience of coaching and mentoring staff (Senior only)

Special Requirements:

  • Hold the New Zealand Diploma in Intelligence Analysis or equivalent. If the NZDIA is not held, the applicant must have the necessary relevant experience and be able to complete and submit the required NZDIA modules within 15 months of employment. Applicants who do not meet this criteria will be considered for a Trainee Analyst role.
  • Be a New Zealand Citizen or have permanent residency and be able to obtain and maintain an appropriate national security clearance.
