The Crime Reporting Unit have a position available to fill the role of Authorised Officer (AO) based at Canterbury DHQ (Christchurch Central Police Station). This is a permanent role with an option to rotate onto the Custody Suite Role at a later time.


The role of AO provides whole District support with Public Counter enquiries and recording of Complaints. This Role can also deal with custodial support to Police across the whole District. This includes the management of custody matters before the courts.


The role requires the use of various Police and standard computer programs.


The role is a team based one:

  • In the Public Counter the operational hours involve 7 day shift work on a roster the consists of a variety of 9 and 9.5 hour shifts ranging from 0700hrs to 2130hrs for 6 days followed by 3-4 days off. This involved regular weekend work.
  • In a custodial environment in both Police Stations and District Courts.


The Custody Suite operational hours involve a 7 day shift work, on a roster that consists of a variety of shifts ranging from 2 early shifts, 2 late shifts, 2 night shifts followed by 4 rostered days-off. This involves regular weekend work. Court Duty is generally Mon- Fri with occasional Sat work, 8 hours per day covering between 0800-1800hrs.


Training will be provided to the successful applicant.

Special Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a physical competence test
  • Must provide a medical clearance to attempt a physical competence test
  • Applicants must be NZ or Australian citizens or have permanent residence in New Zealand
