Waikato District

Salary Range: $54,582.00 - $73,844.00

Permanent, Fulltime

We seek an energetic, enthusiastic and skilled person to join our team as a Youth and Whānau Intervention Worker, focused on youth and whānau harm prevention. This is a fantastic new opportunity to make a real difference as part of our Community Engagement Team for someone who has passion for working with and engaging young people and their whanau.


Based in Hamilton you will be confident in bi-cultural and multi-cultural settings, utilising a Kaupapa Māori, or other approach that is culturally appropriate for the young person and their whānau. Your strong communication and collaboration skills will enable you to lead programmes that contribute to Our Business strategies (Prevention First, Turning of The Tide, Safer Journeys) and work across relevant organisations on behalf of New Zealand Police.


You will make assessments, identify, develop and implement plans and/or programs including referral to existing programs and complete reviews and documentation to a high standard, with a focus on sustainable outcomes.



Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrate by way of examples an ability to lead, engage and influence others through challenging situations
  • Demonstrate by way of examples an ability to develop and deliver sustainable early interventions
  • Demonstrate by way of examples understanding of tikanga in bi-cultural and multi-cultural settings
  • Demonstrate by way of examples a knowledge of the 'YJ' process

Special Requirements:

  • Full NZ Drivers Licence
  • Ability to obtain appropriate security clearance
  • A knowledge of formal qualification in Social Work is useful but not critical
