This vacancy is a diverse role with multiple opportunities to get involved in shaping our Southern Health System.
About the opportunity
This role is based in the Strategy and Planning team (tasked with working across the DHB to support project work, service development initiatives and performance improvement), no two days will be the same as you problem solve to produce robust intelligence and evidence to inform decision-making.
As such, the position requires research, data management, analysis and evaluation skills to support managers in strategic planning, service development, and change management activities. The incumbent will understand how national, regional and district strategic decisions and directions affect the Southern DHB locally and will gather information to assist Portfolio Managers/Senior Managers in their decisions regarding local actions/implementation.
One day you might be working alongside senior managers on performance reporting, the next day undertaking modelling of future demand or geographical differences, and the next day partnering with a service to understand how best to match services to community needs. The role will also provide Management and other decision makers with information about our services and population in a timely, relevant and accurate manner and will input into accountabilities documents, such as the Annual Plan and Annual Report.
Applicants should note that while this role is based in our corporate offices on the Wakari Hospital site, Dunedin, some travel across the district will required at times so applicants should have some flexibility around this, and hold a full driver's licence. We will be open to other base locations, for the right candidate.
About you
If you are a self-starter who shows initiative, listens, can take direction and knows when to ask the right questions, then your curious nature and ability to facilitate group activity with a view to extracting ideas and gaining agreement on ways forward will be of huge benefit in this position. Liaison across Southern DHB and with external providers, analysts in other DHBs and the Ministry of Health will be necessary from time to time.
Because of the diversity of the functions of the vacancy, we are open to a range of backgrounds and skillsets - as well as candidates with strong skills in a particular area and an openness to develop broader skills. This said, experience working with data (and a willingness to develop further skills) is an essential starting point.
It is essential that you have a relevant diploma or bachelor degree or equivalent, eg, commerce, statistics, health or business management.
