Job Description

Manager, Quality Assurance

Are you interested in improving the quality of public sector audits and the other work carried out by, or on behalf, of the Auditor-General? Are you interested in reviewing how accounting and auditing standards are applied across a range of public sector audits?

If so, the Accounting and Auditing Policy team of the Office of the Auditor-General is looking for a Manager, Quality Assurance, for its Wellington office.

As the Manager, Quality Assurance, you'll:

  • be part of a team carrying out quality assurance reviews of annual audits completed by auditors appointed by the Auditor-General from all of the major firms;
  • assist with the reviews of the other work done by, or on behalf of, the Auditor-General;
  • participate in providing assurance to the Auditor-General about the system of quality control; and
  • have opportunities to contribute to other work by the Office of the Auditor-General.

To be successful in the role, you should have:

  • a good understanding of what audit quality is;
  • at least five years' practical financial audit experience as an Audit Manager or a more senior role;
  • membership of the CA College of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (or equivalent);
  • a comprehensive understanding of, and interest in, accounting and auditing principles and their practical application, including a good understanding of accounting and auditing standards;
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to be comfortable communicating with senior audit personnel; and
  • the right to live and work in New Zealand.

You'll be expected to work closely with other members of the Accounting and Auditing Policy team, as well as other staff and the Auditor-General's appointed auditors. Some travel will be required.

We are open to this opportunity being a two-year fixed term or secondment.
