Senior Project Manager ICT Projects - Fixed Term - Wellington at Fire and Emergency New Zealand, Wellington - Wairarapa

Mō tēnei tūranga - About the role:

As a Senior Project Manager, you will help deliver change that supports better outcomes for our people.

This is a senior planning and delivery role where you will lead a complex project responsible for delivering a new modern fit for purpose solution for a business-critical legacy application that supports our operational and administrative activities for frontline staff.

 

On a day-to-day basis you will:

  • Take the lead in creating and managing day to day project activity in line with the Fire and Emergency project approaches and methodologies. This includes budget management, and status reporting.
  • Mitigate risk and maintain project oversight across the full delivery lifecycle
  • Provide support and leadership to your project teams
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Sprint planning and management in DevOps

For this role, we're looking for a Senior Project Manager who brings strong leadership, thrives in complex delivery environments, and can turn strategic intent into clear, actionable plans.

 

We'd love to hear from you if you have experience in the following:

  • Proven experience in project delivery, especially in the modernisation of legacy applications
  • Strong stakeholder management skills including engagement with executive and senior leadership team
  • Experienced in planning and delivering projects in complex environments with multiple dependencies
  • Confident in leading teams, taking ownership and driving proactive planning and delivery
  • Proficient in developing Project Briefs, Project Plans and managing budgets
  • Strong customer-centric mindset
  • Proficient in Azure DevOps planning and managing activities including kanban boards, backlogs, and sprint planning.

 

To be successful in this role, we'd expect you will have:

  • Demonstrated project experience in the modernisation of legacy applications
  • Strong experience in successfully delivering complex projects during significant organisational change
  • Proven experience in successfully managing significant upgrades and replacements for business-critical systems, which include significant process changes
  • Strong experience in preparing and delivering presentations for executive management, which involve communicating complex system changes in plain English
  • Strong understanding of project management and reporting methodologies
  • Strong political acumen with a diplomatic and pragmatic focus on progress over perfection
  • Desirable experience dealing with Unions & Associations

 

The salary range for this role is $141,145 - $156,827 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.  Fixed term position until 30 June 2027.
