Job Description

Job ID: 13301

  • Have you got that 'x-factor' in youth work?
  • Do you have energy to make a difference in the lives of young people?
  • Are you seeking flexible working hours?

Oranga Tamariki operate a care and protection residence in Lower Hutt. This residence operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week providing both care and protection and programmes for children and young people aged 10 to 16 years.

Casual Youth Workers provide support to teams of Residential Social Workers and Youth Workers while they implement programmes, routines, social work, development and basic life skills that will enable the young people to reintegrate successfully into the community.

A passionate group, we're dedicated to improving outcomes for children and young people in our care and to supporting them to realise their potential.  Opportunities exist to join a team dedicated to unlocking potential in our young people, who are always seeking new opportunities, inspiring others, and making connections, and building relationships built on trust and respect.

Working in a residential environment is both challenging and rewarding. We're looking for people who are committed to working with children and young people to help them realise their talents, who have knowledge or experience in the care of at-risk youth or relevant field, for example, education, health or social services.

A positive role model for others, you are values-driven, enjoy working collaboratively and are motivated by building strong, open relationships with others. You are committed to leading by example at all times.

If you want to be part of a team that is passionate about positively changing the course or pathway a young person is travelling on, we want to hear from you. The hours of work are on an ‘as and when required' basis. Daytime, evening and night shifts are available.

To be successful in your application, you will have:

  • a full clean drivers' license is essential
  • experience in social services, including working with at-risk children or youth, and/or a qualification in youth work is preferred
  • you may have experience in youth work as an employee or volunteer, or have relevant life skills.
  • a full orientation programme will be offered to successful applicants
