  • Enable governance activity to run smoothly
  • Improve outcomes for vulnerable children through strong internal governance advice, processes and service

About us

The Ministry for Vulnerable Children, Oranga Tamariki is the new Ministry that supports the vulnerable children and young people in New Zealand.  Oranga Tamariki works to advance the wellbeing and positive long-term outcomes of children and young people.  In everything we do, the wellbeing and best-interests of children are paramount.  The voices of children and young people underpin the design and operation of our services.

About the role

Good governance is key to a high performing and trusted organisation.  As part of establishing a new Ministry, we are creating a team dedicated to developing and embedding organisational governance.

This role is the foundation to the team delivering quality governance services.   You will develop and maintain the team's systems, processes, and documentation, helping the team keep a big picture view of its governance activity while ensuring the finer details are looked after well.  You will develop skills in public sector governance around appointments, secretariat support, frameworks and advice on boards and committees.

Skills and experience

You will have experience with supporting a committee, board, project team or similar group in an organisation and be known for being organised, proactive and getting things done across an organisation.  Ideally, you will already be working in the public service.

You will be able to see the bigger picture of what your work involves, as well as having an eye for the smaller details to ensure success.   You will be customer focused, calm, pragmatic and able to cope with change.

You will have an interest in helping an organisation operate efficiently and developing your skills and experience in governance.
