The Integrated Safety Response ISR is a multi-agency approach to ensure families experiencing violence get the help they need from government and community services.  Oranga Tamariki staff have a key role in this initiative as part of the multi agency team!


We currently have two fixed term/secondment opportunities for Family Violence Response Specialist Social Workers to work in the Integrated Safety Response Pilot to 30 June 2019.  This positions will be based at our Sydenham site.


Your application needs to be able to evidence familiarity/capability with the desired attributes below:


The Family Violence Response Specialist is required to:

  • Review POL 1310s to determine the nature of OT involvement.
  • Decide on OT intervention options for these POLs.   
  • Prepare a brief summary of information to present at the daily interagency Safety Assessment Meeting.         
  • Participate in the daily Safety Assessment Meeting (SAM) and contribute to the safety and well- being planning for families and individuals.
  • Complete any assigned tasks from the SAM.
  • Participate in the Intensive Case Management meeting and contribute to safety and well-being planning for families and individuals.
  • Complete any assigned tasks from the ICM.
  • Act as a consultant for sites in relation to family violence matters.
  • Act as an educator to help increase knowledge in relation to family violence.
  • Act as a conduit between the family violence sector and OT as required.
  • Confidently represent OT at the SAM and ICM and in the FV sector.      


To be successful in the Family Violence Response Specialist roles you will need to:

  • Have a thorough knowledge of OT processes and responses.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Work independently.
  • Bring a ‘child focus' to interagency discussions and intervention planning.  
  • Work closely and cooperatively with specialised family violence staff from the Police, Health, NGO and Justice sectors.
  • Have knowledge of family violence response pathways.
  • Understand theories of violence and interventions, and associated concepts/constructs.
  • Be confident in representing their views in a multi-agency setting.


The ISR pilot will be operating across a seven day working window.  You will need to be able to be flexible with how you work your working week.
