Senior Policy Analyst/ Policy Analyst

About us:

 

The new Ministry for Vulnerable Children, Oranga Tamariki is dedicated to supporting any child or young person in New Zealand whose wellbeing is at significant risk of harm now, or in the future. We were formed from services to support children and young people: Child, Youth and Family, the Children's Action Plan, Community Investment and other parts of the Ministry of Social Development. We are now one Ministry with a single focus – to put the wellbeing of children and young people above all else.

 

About the role:

 

In this role you will have the opportunity to work on critical policy for the new Ministry. Improving outcomes for vulnerable children and young people is a high priority for the Government, and you will be influencing how we achieve this. You could be working on policy that helps young people who have committed a crime get back on track, or ensure children whose have had a tough start in life go on to have positive outcomes. You will be well supported by a team of like-minded thought leaders, including experienced policy managers, principals and principals In order to take on senior role you will have substantial policy experience and you will be comfortable leading policy project and coaching and mentoring more junior analysts.

 

Skills and experience:

 

We are looking for future leaders. You will have experience working in social policy and also of working at the interface between policy and service delivery. Strong communication skills are essential, and you must be able to communicate complex ideas in plain English. Our work is fast paced, highly visible and we operate in a complex multi-agency environment. So you will need to have excellent relationship management skills, be results focused, able to deliver under pressure and maintain focus on the big picture.

 

You will be committed to improving outcomes for vulnerable children and young people and preferably have some experience or knowledge of issues involved. You'll value and respect the mana tamaiti, whakapapa and whanaungatanga of all our tamariki.
