Job Description

Manager Mana Taiao

Applications close Sunday 24 September at 11pm

  • Bring your drive and energy to this true leadership role
  • Challenge the status quo and focus on improvement
  • Develop strong partnerships

Our purpose – he whenua mana kura mō te tangata – is to make Aotearoa New Zealand the most liveable place in the world for our children, their children and their mokopuna.  We are the government's primary advisor on the environment and ensuring it supports New Zealand's prosperity - economic, social and cultural - without compromising it for future generations.

Each of us at MfE plays an important role in delivering this purpose and we're currently looking for a proven leader to bring their driven and proactive approach to our energetic and highly motivated team.  With a history of building high performance in your teams you will work alongside the Director Mana Taiao to inspire an established team to deliver.

Your in depth knowledge and experience in a leadership role will see you add value from day one, and that experience includes an understanding of government.  You'll also be comfortable building relationships with a variety of stakeholders including across an organisation and at a senior level.

Your role will be instrumental in supporting and driving Mana Taiao to:

  • negotiate the environment components of Treaty of Waitangi settlements, implementing Settlement commitments and processes and representing the Ministry's interests in litigation from or about iwi/Māori issues before the courts
  • develop policy across the Natural Resources sector incorporating an iwi/ Māori perspective, incorporating the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and supporting other teams throughout the Ministry in their relationship with iwi/Maori
  • work across the Ministry to provide support to MfE staff when engaging with iwi/Māori or weaving Māori perspectives into their work
  • develop strong partnerships and foster opportunities through more strategic collaboration with iwi/Māori and other parties.

We value innovation, policy entrepreneurship and thought leadership, and our clear purpose and behaviours (our Edge) underpin all that we do.  You will lead your team to bring these behaviours to life as they deliver good outcomes for all.
