Job Description

Are you an experienced Senior Policy Analyst looking for your next challenge?

  • Lead from the front as population and workforce ageing drive social and economic transformation in New Zealand
  • Make a positive difference to the lives of older New Zealanders, both current and future
  • Work across sectors with a range of stakeholders
  • Broaden your policy experience with one of New Zealand's largest government departments

About the Ministry of Social Development

The Ministry of Social Development (MSD) is the lead agency for the social sector.  We help the Government to set priorities across the sector, co-ordinate the actions of other social sector agencies and track changes in the social wellbeing of New Zealanders.

About our Team

The Seniors Policy Team is part of the broader Policy Group within MSD. Our work programme includes providing policy advice on retirement income and wider issues affecting our older people, including social isolation, elder abuse, housing, support for carers and more. The older population of tomorrow will be quite different to that of today and we provide advice on the challenges and opportunities arising from New Zealand's ageing population and workforce.

About the Role

You will be responsible for producing high quality evidence-based policy advice for Ministers on a range of topical issues.  You will work closely with the Office for Seniors and build good networks with MSD's Service Delivery team to develop relevant policy advice. As a senior team member, you will be required to coach analysts and graduates.

Skills & Experience

To be successful in the role, you will be an experienced Senior Policy Analyst who has:

  • Strong analytical skills (includes working with the data behind policy)
  • Desire to impact positively on older New Zealanders
  • Strong people skills (ability to build effective relationships)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Flexibility with juggling priorities to meet deadlines
  • Skills to coach & develop others
  • Experience leading complex policy projects.

In return we invest in our staff to grow and offer development opportunities with diverse policy portfolios. We have a strong people focus and provide a supportive environment for learning and we build capability to deliver quality results.

If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you!
