Permanent Full Time


We are a new Ministry with a commitment to putting vulnerable children and young people at the heart of everything we do and say.  If you are passionate about making a difference in the lives of at-risk young people, join our supportive team who are fully committed to achieving positive outcomes for young people, whanau and the community.


We operate a 24/7, 365 days a year home, working with young people aged 14-17 who are on remand via Youth Court. Our ultimate goal is to help every young person we work with to realise their potential. We help young people transition into education, training, or employment, and to a safe and stable living arrangement when they leave our care. Youth Workers can and do make a significant difference in the lives of at-risk young people. They provide day-to-day role-modelling, mentoring, support, and coordinated activities for the challenging young people under our care. You will be on the floor with our young people, so you must have had previous experience working with youth as you will be delivering programmes and services as part of a daily programme or as part of an individual care plan.


In this role, you will be required to take part 12 hour rostered shifts, these will be 0700 to 1900 (day shift) and 1900 to 0700 (night shift), four days on, then four days off.


You will have experience in social services, including working with at-risk children or youth; and/or a relevant qualification in youth work, sport and recreation, education, health, or psychology is preferred but not essential. Applicants with relevant and transferrable life skills are also encouraged to apply. A full orientation and training programme is included.     


You must:

• meet the VCA safety checking and Ministry vetting requirements (police check etc.)

• be a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident as this Level 4 or 5 ANZSCO classification role.

• be a strong team player and positive role model

• demonstrate initiative and sound judgment, with an ability to ‘think on your feet'

• have experience developing rapport with young people

• be self-directed in work practices

• have excellent written and verbal communication skills and good computer literacy / typing skills

• have a full clean New Zealand drivers' licence
