Job Description

Supervisor, Social Worker, Full time, Permanent, Taumarunui

Based with our Taumarunui team - a site with a big heart and a passion for getting things right for its children, young people and community. You can be part of a positive and supportive team and help children and young people be safe, strong and thrive.

The Taumarunui role extends from Waiouru in the south, to Mapiu in the north, and from Whangamomona in the west to the top of the Hauhangaroa Ranges in the east.  It's vast and sometimes remote.   Applicants will need to be able to work with a range of Iwi in the area. Also be able to represent the Ministry, and ensure that legislated and policy processes are complied with, when on Marae and other community based venues.

In the heart of the King Country, Taumarunui is a neat little town, with lots of outdoor activities and pursuits surrounding the area, including World Heritage listed Tongariro National Park.

We are looking for an experienced supervisor or child protection social worker to join our Taumarunui team as a supervisor.

Tamariki and Rangitahi are at the heart of what we do. Help inspire and lead a team of social workers to get the best outcomes for our most vulnerable children and young people. We are on a transformational journey to enable our practice to be truly child centric. This means that we put the voice and needs of the child or young person first. We hear what they have to say and we make sure that above all else, they are safe, strong and in an environment where they can thrive. As a supervisor, you will play an integral part in making this happen. You ensure social workers carry out quality assessments and make good, solid evidence-based decisions.

You need:

  • full registration and current Annual Practising Certificate with the New Zealand Social Work Registration Board (SWRB)
  • proven expertise in child protection and an understanding of New Zealand legislation that relates to the safety of children and young people
  • excellent social work practice knowledge
  • to enjoy mentoring and inspiring others
  • full clean driver's licence
  • previous leadership experience preferred.

We offer:

  •  salary range $65,567 to $86,486 (based on skills and experience)
  • on-going training and support
  • career development opportunities.

All applications must be made online. However, if this is not possible or if you have any queries, please contact Ray Wiley at Ray.Wiley@mvcot.govt.nz  or Tracy Kelly at Tracy.Kelly@mvcot.govt.nz
