Job Description

Care & Protection Coordinator (Permanent, Part Time), Oamaru

Oranga Tamariki, Ministry for Vulnerable Children
Permanent, Part Time (20 hours per week)

The Ministry for Vulnerable Children, Oranga Tamariki is the new Ministry that supports vulnerable children and young people in New Zealand.  Now is an exciting time to come on board and join Oranga Tamariki. We put tamariki and rangitahi at the heart of everything we do and focus on improving the wellbeing and positive long-term outcomes of children and young people.  The voices of children and young people underpin the design and operation of our services.

New Zealand is a world leader in Family Group Conferences (FGCs). We get to see real and lasting positive outcomes for our children, for our young people and for their families.

But this only happens if the right person is in the Coordinator role - and that might be where you come in.

We have an exciting opportunity for a permanent, part time coordinator to work with our team at our Oamaru site.

The focus of this role

You'll work as an integrated part of our community to manage FGCs. You'll make sure we take a joined up approach to support children, young people and their families and that that all decisions are in the best interest of the child or young person's safety and protection.

This role engages with mokopuna and their whānau, and support professionals. The focus is on family led decisions that support whānau to develop positive outcomes for their mokopuna and tamariki.

To achieve this FGC Coordinator will:

  • balance strong organisational skills and resolve with sensitivity and awareness to manage and support the people in the FGC process
  • work with community partners to ensure that they provide support to families in caring for their children.

Skills and experience required:

  • to ensure the right interactions - the ability to operate in a bi-cultural environment with knowledge of Tikanga
  • to ensure the right support is available - a background in working in the community, and a knowledge of the support services based there
  • to ensure the right people are involved - strong networking and community relationship building skills
  • Plus energy, motivation and the ability to work flexible hours
  • FGC accreditation is desirable.

What we offer in the role:

  • a competitive salary between $62,870 - $80,124
  • on-going training and regular supervision
  • a great team committed to the highest standards of strengths-based social work

If you think you have what it takes, and are totally committed to doing what's right for children and young people, and helping them to grow up safe and strong, then we'd love to hear from you.
